Why WeirWasher Automated Cleaning Systems

WeirWasher Automated Cleaning Systems model WWR uses the in plant service water of nominally 65 psig at 15 to 45 gpm depending upon surface area covered.

Water is supplied to piping that runs under the walkway out to the center column. The piping then enters the center of the column running through the center of the drive unit. The piping proceeds down the middle of the center column and out the square holes in piping for the mixed liquor effluent. The piping proceeds down the outside of the column to the location of the WeirWasher Automated Cleaning Systems’ center unit. The pipe is then connected to the center stationary unit, which allows the water to enter the center unit. The water flows between the stationary and rotating components of the center unit. The piping is then connected to the rotating component of the center unit. The clarifier drive unit drives the center unit with the rest of the rotating structure. The piping is then routed along the scum arm or along the bottom structure of the rotating structure of the tank or clarifier. The piping then is connected to the spray apparatus, which sprays the areas needing cleaning.

The areas that can be cleaned are as follows:

  • Scum Ring (Inside and outside)
  • Weir (Inside and Outside)
  • Launder (overflow, sidewall, bottom)
  • Outer wall (center mounted launder designs)

The center unit during operation is designed to have a small amount of leakage. This leakage allows the center unit to ride on a small water film between the stationary and rotating components of the center unit minimizing the horsepower necessary to rotate the rotating component of the center unit.automated cleaning system

Why WeirWasher Automated Cleaning Systems

Improve safety, reduce maintenance costs, and optimize treatment equipment operation with automation! Grease, Algae, Debris, Scum, Foam, Sludge and other materials can accumulate, diminishing equipment function and requiring regular cleaning maintenance that is both time consuming and hazardous. Automated Cleaning and Control Systems can address the collection areas of the unwanted material with the use of water. These debris control methods use less water and energy, require less maintenance time, and do not use chemicals.

  • Approved by clarifier manufacturers
  • Low weight components
  • +/- Inches of deviation accommodated
  • No counter weights
  • No structural reinforcements
  • No mechanical dragging forces on scum arm
  • All weather use
  • Removes Grease, Algae, oil, scum, duck weed
  • Nozzles Provide 1-5 GPM
  • Average water use: 30 Gallons/Min
  • Rotating Spray Bars
  • Hydraulic lancing action
  • Water Pressure requirements at 60 – 96PSI
  • Piping is over-sided for system requirements

Clarifier and Thickener Applications

  • Rectangular (Chain & Flight)
  • Internal Troughs
  • Bridge Supports
  • Multigon Troughs
  • Square Troughs
  • Covers (Free-Standing)
  • Domed Clarifiers

Industrial Applications

WeirWasher, ACS removes Grease Wax, Polymers, Resins, Pulp, Fibers and other sticky materials from the weirs, trough and other surfaces. The spray apparatus does not contact the surface so it will not clog with the material being removed.

Ecologically Responsible WeirWasher, Automated Cleaning Systems are engineered to optimize the impingement force of the water spray while minimizing the amount of water used. The PATENTED technology delivers plant process water to the WeirWasher, ACS spray apparatus. The rotating spray bars require a few nozzles to spray a large area as they travel around the tank on the scum arm.

Features of WeirWasher Automated Cleaning Systems:

Improve Safety

  • Significantly reduces time in or near the treatment equipment performing cleaning maintenance
  • Reduce algae fouling and cleaning in sand filters, UV disinfection, chlorine contact tank
  • Spray penetrates 4-10 inches below water line to clean inaccessible/dangerous clarifier designs

Perfect Retro Fit

  • ALL CLARIFIER DESIGNS (square, rectangle, round)
  • Maximum design flexibility
  • NO costly tank changes such as bolt head removal, baffle bracket replacement or walkway support removal
  • Articulate around obstructions-walkway supports, dual troughs, multi sided launders

Non-Contact Cleaning

  • Significantly reduces possibility of becoming caught on tank components
  • Excellent choice for primary clarifiers, thickeners and tanks with grease accumulation
  • Light Weight Design – no counterweights need

Green Technology

  • Minimal water usage compared to fire hose method
  • Narrow cleaning stream and rotation-maximize the available pressure for effective material removal
  • ELIMINATE need for chemical usage to control algae
  • WATER is an EFFECTIVE CLEANER even at lower pressures- no need for brushes or scrapers
  • Small carbon foot print-few replacement parts

Dynamic System

  • Algae control system can change with the facility capacity
  • Maximize results with the addition of a booster pump as flows increase
  • Sludge and debris accumulating on surface will be driven back into solution
  • Feed well sprayer for foam and sludge accumulation control

Protect UV Investment

  • Prohibits large algae bloom growth that can break off and foul the UV chamber and require removal
  • Large algal blooms can reduce UV effectiveness or cause bulb breakage

Simple to Operate -Truly Automated

  • Controlled directly by SCADA or automatic valve—No manual engagement or disengagement with a hook required
  • Uses available non-potable plant water
  • System drains when off so *No Freezing*
  • Clarifier bottom cleaning attachment—pre clean tank before entering
  • Few Moving Parts=less maintenance

Lowers TSS

  • Water spray cleans past brackets, walls, etc. to provide effective and consistent algae control
  • Water spray penetrates 4-10 inches below water surface
  • Consistent daily cleaning • Cleans irregular and porous surfaces
  • Minimize UV chamber fouling

Performance Enhancing

  • Optimizes clarifier/thickener performance by allowing consistent flow through weirs preventing short circuiting and preventing solids collection in the influent trough

Other Products

  • Belt Blaster
  • Weir Shield
  • Weir Rover

Eco Blaster, Foreign Material Control:

Eco-Blaster, Biological Control Systems address a wide range of material control concerns including foam, scum, grease, algae, sludge, paper, pulp, rags, sand, stones, or other undesirable material automatically without the use of chemicals. Applications include aeration basins, clarifiers, head works, feed wells, screens, EQ basins, wet wells, gravity belt thickeners, etc. Screens, for instance, require a simple retrofit of the existing sprayer or brush with effective results for a minimal investment. The cost savings for foam applications are significant when compared to the cost of de-foaming chemicals. Significantly reduce the maintenance time, costs, and chemical requirements while improving the cake production of a gravity belt thickener. Grease accumulation will lead to odor concerns, degradation of the tank walls, probes, ladders and other components and can pose hazards for staff to remove. Utilization of an automated system will prevent this accumulation, including the thick mats of grease. Moderate foaming can become problematic in the anaerobic zone of aeration basins when the foam amasses and thickens. Pest infestations, odor problems and cleaning concerns are easily eliminated with an Eco-Blaster design.
